Journey around the Sun

A second vanishing point

As mentioned before, at the North Pole, the Self loses its ability to cast itself out around itself, to project itself outwards. It keeps to itself (13.8).
A closer look at our journey round the Sun now reveals that within the Solar field, there is one situation in which our connection to that field is lost. This position is found at the Arctic circle.
In other words, just as we discovered that at the North Pole, our personal Self cannot cast out a surrounding field any longer, in the same way we encounter a situation at the Arctic circle where we are not subjected to the effects of our orbiting the Sun. At this location, the all-encompassing Zodiac with its imagery loses its hold over us for a moment. How does this work exactly?

The Arctic circle

The Arctic circle is at 66,5° from the Equator, complementing the 23,5° inclination of Earth’s axis to 90°. Consequently, at the Arctic circle we are no longer standing askew on the Zodiacal plane.

Even though Earth’s axis itself still maintains the same angle of inclination with the Ecliptic plane, we no longer share this deviation when standing on the Arctic circle: Here we are perpendicular to the Solar plane, in the sense that we are standing upright in the Solar plane. This situation occurs daily during a single moment (*).

No point of application

In this perpendicular position, the plane of our Horizon coincides with the Zodiacal plane for a short moment once every twenty-four hours. Because both planes merge with each other at this specific moment in time, there is no intersection between them any longer. This makes it impossible to determine the Ascendant point: The Ascendant ceases to exist for a moment. Consequently, the Zodiac's physical point of application on us as individuals also falls away for a moment.(*)
And because the Zodiacal borders of the Houses are directly linked to the Ascendant, the whole framework of the Houses disappears with it.

Projection out of Order

Actually, something remarkable happens here with the position circles. Because these circles are anchored in the South and North points at the Horizon, this anchoring now coincides with the Zodiacal plane as well. Therefore, the function of the projection arcs (fig. 8.2), which is to transfer the Zodiacal positions onto the picture plane, ceases to exist, for the arc of the position circles in this situation is 0°. So the projection of any celestial factors to the picture plane drops away. The whole mechanism of projection is deactivated: there is no subjective image any longer, nor any intermediaries or information carriers.
In other words, for one moment, our existence cannot be expressed any longer in terms of the Zodiac.
